Top 10 Staycations

Published 05/07/2021
Main Banner
The definition of a 'staycation' is: "a holiday spent in one's home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions." With coronavirus restrictions easing as we head towards summer in the United Kingdom but international travel still very much limited, there has never been a better time to appreciate our own country.

In today's blog I'm going to have a look at 10 places across the UK that would be perfect for a staycation!

Yorkshire Dales

One of the UK's best known and most loved National Parks, the Yorkshire Dales is defined by its rolling hills and picturesque villages, and is a favourite of walkers and campers alike.

Cornwall

Cornwall is unlike much of England, so much so that some of its inhabitants support Cornish independence! The southernmost county in the UK features endless beaches and cosy fishing towns, and is one of the UK's most popular staycation destinations.

Lake District

Home of England's highest peaks, the Lake District is another long time favourite of those holidaying in the UK. As well as mountains to summit, it also has some of the country's largest lakes, ideal for boat activities.

London

One of the world's most popular cities, we're lucky to have London right on our doorstep. Pretty much anything you can possibly think of doing is possible in London, where even things such as the Underground are iconic and known worldwide.

Edinburgh

Scotland's answer to London? Edinburgh is a city which has grown exponentially in recent years and has become a must-visit destination for those from across the UK. Edinburgh's famous Castle offers one of the most amazing views you're ever likely to see.

Norfolk Broads

If you're looking for something a bit slower paced, then the Norfolk Broads might be just what you're after. It's known mainly for two things: boats and windmills, and is hands down one of the most relaxing places to visit for a staycation in the UK.

The Gower

Gower Power! The Area of National Beauty just outside of Swansea in South Wales is a lesser-known gem, with amazing coastlines and friendly locals, and plenty of cosy pubs! Worth a trip if you're wanting to do something a bit different this summer.

Scottish Highlands

Difficult to get to but certainly worth the trip, the Scottish Highlands features some of the UK's most breathtaking natural scenery. Why not take a trip to Loch Ness whilst you're there?

Manchester

Another up and coming city in the UK, Manchester has now become England's 'second city'. Known for its passionate football culture, shopping and nightlife, a weekend away in Manchester is sure to leave you wanting to go back for more.

Jurassic Coast

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Jurassic Coast stretches from Dorset to Devon, covering 96 miles on the way. The combination of beaches and cliffs is unlike anything else you'll see on a staycation in the UK.
