The Coronation of His Majesty The King will take place on Saturday 6th May 2023.

The following statement has been released by the Royal Family on their website royal.uk:

"The Coronation Ceremony will take place at Westminster Abbey, London, and will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The Ceremony will see His Majesty King Charles III crowned alongside The Queen Consort.

The Coronation will reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry."

What are the timings for the coronation of King Charles III?

On the morning of 6th May, Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla will travel in procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey. They will travel in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach which was made to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's 80th birthday but following delays in the build, was used to commemorate her Diamond Jubilee. The carriage will be drawn by six Windsor Grey horses.

The Coronation service will begin at 11 am at Westminster Abbey. It is thought the service may last two to three hours.

After the service, their Majesties will return to Buckingham Palace, this time travelling in the Gold State Coach. The Gold State Coach was built in 1762, adding to the sense of tradition and ceremony of the day.

The procession will arrive at Buckingham Palace in the afternoon where Their Majesties will receive a salute from the United Kingdom and Commonwealth Armed Forces in the Buckingham Palace Gardens, and appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony to expected crowds below. There will then be a ceremonial flypast.

We are so excited as a family to be watching the King’s coronation in Canada. We will be up very early to follow the celebrations and swear allegiance to our new King Charles lll. Later we will be having a traditional cream tea, followed by coronation chicken, and coronation quiche for dinner. “ God save the King!”
