National Grief Awareness Week takes place from 2nd - 8th December 2021, and is organised by The Good Grief Trust, a charity run by the bereaved for the bereaved, who bring bereavement services together to ensure anyone affected by grief has access to the support they need.

The aim of Grief Awareness Week is to raise awareness of the impact grief can have on people, and also to raise awareness of the services that are available for bereavement support.

Grief is still a taboo subject for some people, which can make it harder to seek help when they have suffered a bereavement. One of the main aims of Grief Awareness Week is to help people to realise that it’s OK to talk about their grief, and to encourage them to seek help when struggling. The Good Grief Trust aims to normalise grief and ensure it becomes an easier topic to discuss.

The Good Grief Trust have around 800 support services and organisations, all offering help and support for any bereavement in the UK. These available services are often unknown to those who may need them, so part of National Grief Awareness Week is to raise awareness that these services are available to both the bereaved and those around them.

If you want to help spread awareness for National Grief Awareness Week, head to the website: thegoodgrieftrust.org/ngaw, where you can find downloadable campaign posters and logos to help you.

However, just speaking more openly and honestly about grief will help raise awareness, whether by opening up about your own experiences with grief or by reaching out to someone who is grieving.
