There are many ways you can fundraise in memory of a loved one. It is best to speak to family and friends about this to share ideas and see what would be best. However, if you are struggling to think of ideas we have some suggestions for you.

Firstly, you’ll need to think about what you’d like to fundraise for. Visit our blog on ‘Which Charity Should I Choose to do a Collection For?’ for ideas on how to pick. After you’ve chosen how you’d like to raise money in memory of your loved one, the best way is to make it as easy as possible for people to donate. At funeral-notices.co.uk you can now make cashless donations through our site which can be shared across all social media platforms. Visit here to learn more about how to do this.

Another way to raise money in memory of your loved one is to state it in the death notice. For example “No family flowers please, donations if desired to X Y Z.” You could also have collection envelopes at the funeral so you can receive cash donations.

Fundraising Events

You could also have several fundraising events that would bring family and friends together in hard times and support each whilst raising money. Here are some ideas:
  • Have a bake sale
Bakes sales are a fun, easy way to raise money for charity. You can ask friends and family to bring their homemade baked goods as well.
  • Hold a balloon or lantern release (biodegradable ones)
Balloon or lantern release can be a really beautiful moment that brings everyone together. You don’t necessarily have to charge per balloon/lantern but have a collection jar and let people know you’re raising money. Consider biodegradable ones as plastic ones damage wildlife and the environment.
  • Fun run / sporting event
These are well-suited if the person deceased passed through healthcare-related issues/causes but they can be used for any type of fundraising. You can make T-shirts, wear costumes and have merchandise to sell. Choose a suitable location (have a backup) and check the weather.
  • Community car boot sale
The passing of a loved one often means cleaning out your home. A car boot sale can help raise money for the cause whilst getting rid of items that don’t hold sentimental value. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure!
  • Getting crafty
Get some paintbrushes, sewing machines or anything you’d like to design and sell it! You can then donate the proceeds in memory of your loved one.

Many of these activities will help keep you busy and be fun, which may well help you to get through grieving process. We hope this blog helps you think of ideas to raise money in memory of your loved one.
