The pain you can feel inside when someone you love passes away is impossible to put into words. Getting over a loved one's death can be one of the hardest things you'll ever have to do.
But how long will it take you to get over your grief, and be able to move on in your life without the feelings of sorrow? In today's blog I'm going to take a look at this subject.
Unfortunately there's no blanket answer which applies to this question. Everyone reacts to grief in a different way and everyone will recover from it at their own rate.
For some people it may take only a couple of days to get over a loved one's passing - particularly if it has been expected for some time due to illness or age - whereas someone who's been bereaved suddenly and shockingly may take years to feel like they've truly been able to feel as if they've moved on in their lives.
Therefore, it's important to not rush yourself, or indeed rush others. You may find yourself thinking, 'why have other people moved on so much quicker than me?' or if it's the opposite way around, 'why is it taking others so long to get past this?'
Again, there's no easy answer for this either. A 'strategy' employed by many is to try and remember the happy times which you shared with the person that's passed away. Nothing will ever be able to take away those memories from you.
Another one is to speak to family and friends who also knew the deceased, sharing stories about them and also checking in on one another, asking if they're ok and if they need any support in what is unquestionably a difficult time.
On Funeral Notices, many customers leave long tributes to those who have passed away, some on a regular basis. This may prove a cathartic experience to those grieving.
