This September is the 33rd annual Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM), a month dedicated to generating awareness and support for children suffering from all types of cancer.
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is supported by a many different charities and organisations, so we thought that it would be a good idea to highlight a few of them and the activities that they are organising.
Children With Cancer UK are taking part this year by organising a ‘Give a Hug’ campaign. A hug is such a simple thing, a wordless gesture that says so much. Some hugs are pure joy, some hugs are for sadder days, but all hugs come from the heart.
Have a look on their
Give a Hug campaign page for how you can get involved by giving a hug, or by donating to Children with Cancer UK.
The
Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) are asking people to become
Gold Ribbon Champions by selling gold ribbon pin badges in their workplace or community. Money raised from the sales will then go towards funding vital research into childhood cancers and save young lives.
You could also ‘
Bake It Gold’ and raise money and awareness by selling cakes or buns with some gold details, such as the CCLG’s gold ribbon motif. A free fundraising kit is available on the campaign page.
Taking a different approach to Childhood Cancer Awareness Month,
The Institute of Cancer Research will be spending the month highlighting their latest work to improve the lives of children living with cancer. Last year they shared blogs, videos and in depth insight into their latest research. Take a look at their
CCAM page if you would like to learn more.
According to Children With Cancer UK, every day, 10 children and young people will receive the devastating news that they have cancer. Of those 10, two will not survive.
Research and awareness is vitally important to improving this harrowing statistic, so get involved if you can, and let's give every child the chance to grow up and fulfil their dreams.
