This month in our charity spotlight we are taking a look at the national ovarian cancer charity, Ovacome. The reason we chose this charity is because of the great collection that has been raised on the notice for
Clare Louise Lindsay of Coventry. These wonderful donations and the tributes left by family and friends has left us feeling inspired to find out more about Ovacome.
Ovacome provides support and information to anyone in the UK affected by ovarian cancer. This includes those who have been diagnosed with the disease, as well as those who think they might be at risk, their friends and family, and even healthcare professionals.
They currently have just under 4,000 members, and each year they support around 18,000 people.
The range of support services they offer includes the following:
- a telephone support line, as well as email and instant chat support
- regional support and information events
- an online programme of support groups and webinars
- expert information booklets on ovarian cancer, to support you through treatment and beyond
Ovacome has a great section on their website that is full of information about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. They say that the most common symptoms of ovarian cancer are:
- Persistent bloating of the abdomen
- Difficulty eating and feeling full quickly
- Persistent abdominal and pelvic pain
- Changes in urination or bowel habit
Other symptoms can include:
- Extreme tiredness or fatigue
