June’s charity spotlight blog has been inspired by the collection raised in memory of
Claire Reader on her notice page here on funeral-notices.co.uk. Friends and family came together to pay tribute to Claire by way of donating £775.00 to
Approach Dementia Support in her memory.
Approach and Dougie Mac collaborate through a strategic alliance.
Based in the North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent area, Approach Dementia Support is a charity dedicated to supporting local people affected by dementia. They aim to be recognised as the leading provider of dementia support services in their region through their work and fundraising.
Here’s a quote from their current strategic plan that explains why their work is so necessary right now:
In Staffordshire, over 12,000 people live with dementia and 4,000 of these are in Stoke-on-Trent alone. This pressing social issue requires a robust and effective strategy to ensure that those living with dementia in our local community have access to the right support at the right time and can live their life in the way that they choose.
In order to provide the level of support that they want to offer, Approach focus on providing quality services that are regularly reviewed and developed, as well as generating income to achieve the financial stability needed to continue offering these services, and actively engaging with the people within the organisation to make sure they move forward as one.
Put simply, dementia is a general term used to describe problems with memory, thinking or language that are severe enough to interfere with daily life. It can even cause changes in mood, emotions or behaviour.
Approach Dementia Support have a brilliant collection of
Information Factsheets on their website, so if you want more in depth information or help then that is a great place to start.
If you are not based in Staffordshire, then a lot of information and help is still available for you.
Alzheimer's Research UK is the UK's leading dementia research charity, and there are a great deal of resources available to you on their website. You can also find a lot of information on the
NHS website about symptoms and diagnosis, as well as what care and support is available.
