2021: Our Year in Review

Around this time last year I wrote a blog titled ’How Looking Back on 2020 Can Help You Learn and Grow’, and at the time I really did not think that we would be a whole year on and still awaiting the next lockdown announcement.

Maybe that was a little too optimistic, but while our situation surrounding the pandemic may not have changed as much as we would hope, there are some things that we have achieved in the last 12 months.

What have we achieved in 2021?

Here at funeral-notices.co.uk we have achieved some big things this year. We have now helped families and friends raise over £2,000,000 for hundreds of charities in memory of their loved ones, and three quarters of that total was raised in 2021! We are incredibly proud of that achievement, and we will continue to strive to do even more in 2022.

We also took the bold step of changing the style of our printed Funeral Notices in all 100 of our newspapers, so that they now have the same smart, fresh look across every single publication. Newspaper notices are a very traditional medium, but we have to embrace the fact that we are living in a digital age now and so our printed pages have had the much needed facelift that they deserve.

Elsewhere in 2021 the country tried its best to get back to something akin to normal, at least for a few months. We hugged and we ate indoors, we saw live music and sport, and some of you even went back to work in an actual office again. Some of those things might seem like they are at risk once more, but we have pulled through before and we know we can pull through it again.

On a personal note, a highlight of the year for me was the delayed UEFA Euro 2020. Of course a lot of the enjoyment was enhanced by England’s outstanding performance in making it all the way to the final, but what really made the event stand out for me is how collectively we all got to forget all our worries for a few weeks and just focus on a bunch of guys kicking a ball around as if it was the most important thing in the world.

How should we tackle 2022?

Maybe you’re not a football fan, but I think in 2022 if you can find just one thing that can provide you with that welcome relief, with that all encompassing distraction, then I would throw your whole self into enjoying that thing. The pandemic is still here and we cannot (and should not) ignore it, but what we can do is give 100% of ourselves to embracing whatever that one thing is. Maybe it’s a special holiday you might have planned, or a baby that is already on its way, or maybe it’s that World Cup..?

Let us know in the comments below what you have planned for 2022 or what you are looking forward to embracing. We would love to hear from you.

Thanks for reading, and here’s to grabbing 2022 with both hands (whether it wants us to or not).
