When a loved one passes away it may help to ease your grief by honouring them in some way. There are many ways you can do this; in this blog post I will give you a few ideas.
  • Plant something
Plant a flower, tree or even a garden in your loved one’s memory. This also has the benefit of being good for the environment, and will be a long lasting memorial for your loved one.
  • Memorial bench
Memorial benches can be engraved with your loved one’s name and can provide a place for you to rest and think of your loved one.
  • Leave a chair empty
Many people leave a chair empty on special occasions for their loved ones who have passed away, so that they can feel that their loved one can join in with the celebrations. Some even set an extra place at mealtimes.
  • Take up a hobby
Taking up a hobby that was dear to your loved one is a great way to honour their memory. You are learning a new skill that was important to them, so it will help you to feel close to them.
  • Create memorial jewellery
Memorial jewellery can be made from your loved one’s ashes, a lock of their hair, or even their handwriting. This is a lovely way to honour their memory, and means you can carry a part of them with you at all times.
  • Keep something of theirs with you
Keeping an item your loved one was fond of with you will help to remind you of them and feel like they are close. You can also make things from their old clothes, such as pillows, teddy bears or even quilts.
  • Start a new tradition
This is a great way to honour your loved one, especially if it is something they loved to do in life. It will help to keep their memory alive for you and those you choose to share the tradition with.
  • Give to charity
You could make a donation to your loved one’s favourite charity, or even hold a fundraiser in their memory.
  • Throw a party in honour of your loved one
This allows you and the rest of your family and friends to honour your loved one together. You could share stories and memories, and maybe participate in activities your loved one used to enjoy.
  • Get a memorial tattoo
If you don’t mind something permanent, a memorial tattoo is a great way to honour someone who has passed away. There are some lovely designs, but be sure before you go ahead.
