Back in 1952 I was four years old and we lived with Dot and Peter in a small house in Portman Rd, Norton. I can remember Kath and Peter getting married and going to Blackpool on their honeymoon. They came back late one night, so Frankie and me were got out of bed to greet them and join in the excitement of their trip. Kathy and Pete brought our Frank, a yacht to play with on Norton Duck Pond. I got a super-sized motorboat that could be wound up and the propeller would go crazy as the boat speed across the pond.

Their return from Blackpool is one of the highlights of my childhood.

Uncle Peter, as he was known, took me bird spotting down in Ozzie wood. We would sit silently for ages waiting for a blue fridge or a fantail. When I spotted one, I shouted;

“There it is”

at the top of my voice and scattered every bird for miles around. Uncle Pete tried to teach me patience. Alas, I still haven't got it.

Bon voyage, Uncle Pete, and thanks for everything.

Bob.
