Bill was my neighbour and friend and I will miss him very much. Until shortly before his passing we continued to email each other as he was interested to hear about places I had visited or walks I had recently been on. In return I found his vast knowledge fascinating, especially when he would reflect on his life in Inverurie from boy to man. A life well lived which enriched the lives of those who knew him. This year in June my annual participation of the Kiltwalk will be in Bill’s memory raising funds for MND.
I will forever think of Bill whenever I hear ABBA’s song Fernando remembering the “Super Trouper” he was.
Rest In Peace Dear Gentleman

Bill was a great friend to my family and a valuable community member.
I remember him from my childhood as I sat with junior choir members in the chancel of St Mary's Episcopal Chruch alongside Bill playing the organ. He had a great knowledge of the history of Aberdeenshire and he introduced me to some of the wonderful and rich literature of the Northeast of Scotland. His contribution to local heritage and research was considerable. He was a great example to us in how he managed his final illness with such fortitude. When Lindsay and I decided to return to my home many miles away from peers to get married, Bill accepted the request to be our Best Man at our wonderful wedding at St Mary's 42 years ago. We will miss Bill. Rest in Peace Good and Faithful Servant. Lindsay and Anne Robertson (Dransart)
