PeterSMITHOf Poplar Close, Oswaldtwistle, passed away in hospital on Sunday 20th April 2025, surrounded by his loving family, aged 86 years.
Peter is reunited with his wife of 55 years, Janet. He was the much-loved father of Gordon, Louise (Fox) and Duncan, father-in-law to Glenn and Karly, and grandfather to Hannah, Abigail, Joel, Nash, Bede and Arlo. Peter was the oldest brother of Duncan, Muriel and Jeremy, all of whom passed before him, and brother-in-law to Jim, John and Joan. In later life, he dedicated his life to the care of others, including Janet and then Jeremy as their health failed them. Peter spent over 40 years in the merchant navy, spending much of that time as Chief Engineer aboard a wide variety of ships, from tankers to container vessels. He travelled extensively through his time in the navy, but also to visit family in Australia and New Zealand. He loved spending time in nature, the Lake District being his favourite place. He was a skilled problem solver and had a gift for fixing things ranging from cars to the grandchildren's toys.
Peter will be very sadly missed by all his loving family.
His funeral service will be held at 2pm, on Wednesday 7th May 2025, at Union Road Community Church, 309-317 Union Road, Oswaldtwistle BB5 3JD, followed by burial at Immanuel Church Cemetery, 180 New Lane, Oswaldtwistle BB5 3QW.
