I feel deeply grieved at the passing away of James. I offer my deepest condolences to his family, especially his wife Prem and his daughter Rebecca. James was so committed to the empowerment of the Fiji-Indian community in the UK and his organisation took the lead in campaigning for equal rights for Indian settlers living in Fiji for generations with the natives over there. Naturally James was a well-liked member of the Indian community in the UK. While working as one of the London-based Directors of the Commission for Racial Equality (Human Rights Commission) I had the pleasure to associate with James to organise meetings, including some at the Committee Rooms at the House of Commons, to publicise the issue. Just like me, all those who knew and worked with him must feel his loss immensely.
