GlynROBERTSMr David Glyn Roberts, of Milnshaw Gardens, Accrington, passed away suddenly but peacefully at home, aged 84, on Thursday, February 4. Born in Blackburn in 1936, after leaving school in 1951 he served an engineering apprenticeship at English Electric, Clayton-le-Moors. In 1956 he went into the Merchant Navy, travelling the world until coming ashore in 1962. For the next 15 years he worked at both Northrop and Mullards, before finally working at Rist Wires and Cables in Accrington, before taking early retirement. Glyn spent his lifetime heavily involved in sport, especially football and cricket, playing for various teams in his youth. He was a sports quiz buff, competing both locally and nationally with much success. A lifelong Blackburn Rovers supporter and an avid supporter of Church Cricket Club, he enjoyed many years spending time watching the two. He also enjoyed watching amateur football, especially watching two of his sons play every weekend for many years. Glyn had a passion for singing; he was a member of many local choirs, but he was particularly proud of being a member of the prestigious St Mary’s choir in Oswaldtwistle. He also sang in the St Mary’s Concert Choir under Mr Bernard Doyle. Latterly, he became a founder of the Braithwaite Singers. Glyn leaves four children Sharron, David, Martyn and Gareth, along with 10 grandchildren Lauren, Daniel, Ellie, Jessica, Megan, Larraine, Harry, Natalie, Toby and Hattie. A much loved father, grandad, brother, father-in-law and uncle. Requiem Mass will be Held on Friday, February 19, at 10am at St Joseph’s RC Church, Accrington, followed by cremation at Accrington Crematorium, led by Fr Simon Stamp.
