The obituary notice of Dominic Reade Julian OUGHTON

It was a privilege to have known you Dom from all those years ago at Lloyds. You were definately one of a kind! After that initial steadfast exterior is a deeply loyal and kind man. I was glad to have caught up with you at the tower and finally have that drink that was so long overdue.

Two memories of Dominic - one, from childhood, the photo that Grandma and Granddad had of him, looking vey smart in his uniform as Chief Petty Officer; the second, last Christmas, when we met at the Tower of London to catch up after far too long. I wish we had reconnected sooner, but was so glad to have had the chance to get to know him.

Dom, I was really glad I managed to see you in hospital, to reminisce and still manage to sort out a few of the worlds problems. I have some great memories of the laughs and fun times we had after joining the RN all those years ago. I enjoyed our meet ups in London, catching up and just having a chat. A true gent whose heart was always in the right place, RIP my old friend.

Dom was great fun from the moment I bumped into him 40 years ago when we were both in the Royal Navy.

Two guys discovering that the other one was from Llanrwst whilst on a yacht in the middle of the English Channel.

He was the youngest Chief Petty Officer ever at the age of only 22 whilst I had just joined the Navy at 18. He didn’t let his significant seniority in rank get in the way of becoming an immediate and great friend.

I was always very proud to count him as a friend and had many a run ashore in Pompey, Bath and of course, Llanrwst.

He showed great courage and kept his good humour during my visits to him in hospital.

You will be sadly missed Dom. We always enjoyed working with you, and have some great memories. Always a true gentleman and your kindness in showing me and my daughter around the Tower was a wonderful gift. Thank you.
