We have lost our matriarch! Auntie Toriad was a huge influence on us all. The first person in our family to go to university (perhaps the first woman from Bedwas to do so), she was a Headteacher at Llanederyn High School for many years - where her favoured saying according to past pupils was: “Balderdash and poppycock!” Rather than retiring she went to teach in China. As you do.

She was sophisticated, glamorous and an enchanting raconteur. She had the most wonderful bloody handful of a husband, and four children whose personalities you could barely fit into one room - and yet she maintained an elegant composure.

Upon having my own babies, my own mother often absent or ill, I would push a buggy up Penylan Hill to her bungalow where G&T seemed to flow out of the taps. She’d be there. Reading a novel. In French. Just because.

She was 95 and had a wonderful send off on a sunny day last week. It might have been the effect of the Cardiff Arms Park choir reverberating around the church, but I confess I cried my heart out. She was a last link to our past and I loved her so. 💔

I spent many a times in her office and had the cane aswell . In the end Mrs Morris ended up keeping me by her side so I couldn’t get into any more trouble and we were more like friends than teacher and pupil . I did well in my exams as Mrs Morris talked to me like an individual and what an inspiration she was to me and many pupils . RIP Mrs morris from a pupil you inspired xxx

Not many I remember from school but your mum is definitely one of them. Although I did like her as a teacher, she got me suspended for 3 days for wearing leg warmers.

So sorry for your loss Joe. I remember your mum well, she was always strict but very kind. She always used to carry her glasses and had a bit of her fringe she used to push back into place. She was always smiling and laughing. So sorry for your loss
