Alan A.MITCHELL(Newton-on-the-Moor) on 23 October 2023 aged 85. Dearly loved husband of Christine, father to Amanda and Claire and grandfather to Zoe, Lucie and Jessica. He will be deeply missed and affectionately remembered always. Funeral at Northumberland Crematorium, Felton Friday 10 November at 1.45pm. Family flowers only please. Any donations to British Heart Foundation. Thanks to paramedics, staff and doctors at Cramlington Hospital.

I just read about AAM’s passing in Novo today (Jan 2024). Sir, you taught me in 1993-1996 and I still remember bucketloads of random facts and quotes regarding Gladstone, Disraeli, the Match Girls’ Strike, phossy jaw, the GOM/MOG, jeannie jeannie full of hopes etc. You were a legend and I still talk about you 30 years on. Thanks for letting us watch Time Team on the big telly and actually talking to us instead of making us just read textbooks. And thanks for coming to the concerts. We always sang better knowing you were there watching us when you didn’t have to, we wanted to do a good job just like you did. RIP
