Edward AlexanderMCCORKLEDied 12th February 2025

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Edward Alexander McCorkle (AKA John Dee), a beloved husband, father, and trailblazer. Born in 1934 in Kingston, Jamaica, he was part of the Windrush generation, shaping a life of resilience and purpose in the UK.

A passionate socialist, Edward believed in equality and justice. Hardworking and generous, he welcomed all with warmth, sharing his home and wisdom.

His love for music led him to become the first Black DJ on commercial radio at Piccadilly Radio 261 in the 1970's, breaking barriers in media. He later started a successful car repair business and, at 76, fulfilled a lifelong dream by earning a Degree in Art from Salford University (2006).

Edward's legacy is one of strength, love, and ambition. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

With love, The McCorkle Family
