GlenisLONSDALEOf Accrington, passed away peacefully at Royal Blackburn Hospital on February 1, aged 88 years. The devoted wife of her first husband, the late Norman and her second husband, the late Jim, a much-loved and loving mum of David and Mark and daughters-in-law Jenny and Pam. Nan to Claire, Nicola and Dean. Great grandma to Alfie, Ashden, Jacob, Brogan and Esmie. She was brought up in Haslingden and then Accrington. She left school and trained to be a baker but later gave this up when she married Norman. Later, she started working at Ewbank on the housewives’ shift in the 60s. She left there to work in the ac shop which was located in Blackburn, later moving to Abbey Street, Accrington, until the late 80s. She had a few years off then went into catering at Accrington and Rossendale College until retiring in the early 2000s. She and Jim shared a love of travel, especially their frequent holidays to Spain, the Balearics and the Canaries. Once they decided overseas travel was too much they started going to North Yorkshire using Hawes as a base where they would go walking with their much loved dog Harry. A keen dancer, she always looked forward to weekends along with catching up with friends, sharing a drink, and taking a spin on the dance floor with Jim. Once Jim passed, she took up walking with the Ramblers and line dancing until it became too much for her. The funeral is on Wednesday, February 19, at 11am at Accrington Crematorium. Family flowers only, but donations in Glenis’ memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society. If you wish to make a donation you can do so via Hyndburn funeral services.
