The funeral has taken place at St Mewan Parish Church of John Henry Lobb, aged 97 of “Oakridge” Little Polgooth, St Austell. The Reverend Chris McQuillen-Wright officiated followed by a burial.
John passed away peacefully at Liskeard Community Hospital on 2nd March 2024.
John was born on 5th November 1926 at Boconnion farm, Helland then when John was 5, along with his brother William and sister Winnie, the family moved to Lanhadron Farm, St Ewe. Upon semi-retirment he moved to Oakridge where he lived for the remainder of his life with his wife Margaret whom he married in 1955. They had 3 children, Susan, David and Sharon. Later they were delighted to have their eight grandchildren.
John began his farming life at the age of 7 when he started by milking the cows. He then went on to help his father with shearing the sheep.
John attended St Ewe school until the age of 13 when war broke out. John then began to work on his father’s farm and through his teens and early twenties was an active member of the Young Farmers Club and made some great friends.
John became a keen ploughman and was well known for his straight furrows and won the cup for the Young Farmer’s class. Farming wasn’t just a job to John, it was his hobby and his passion and he dedicated his life to it. He continued ploughing well into his 80’s and then enjoyed gardening into his later years.
John managed to have several holidays with his wife, Margaret, including a Mediterranean cruise and trips to America, Canada, Russia and later they enjoyed coaching holidays, one of which was Scotland. He also went to Expo 67 in New York, New Zealand and Fiji with his brother, William. He then had a trip to China with his cousin Martyn.
John will be remembered for his love of farming. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. Family mourners were-
