James HislopKELLY"Scots steel tempered wi' Irish fire."

In loving memory of James Hislop Kelly of Rutherglen, passed away 12 September 1959, aged 84, at home in Victoria Street. Loving and much loved husband of Ellen (Nell) nee Queen, a loving father, grandpa and great grandpa.

A miner in Cambuslang aged 12. A music hall performer and promoter alongside Harry Lauder during and after WW1 raising funds for ex-servicemen and their families. Manager of world champion Rutherglen Ladies FC who beat the reigning world champions The Dick Kerr's Ladies on 13 September 1923 at Shawfield.

You were a quiet, kindly, precise and disciplined man who always gave us jobs to do. Shortly before you died you sat up in the recess bed in the kitchen to watch Douglas and I dance the jive and sing Rock Around The Clock and said "I wish I was still booking acts, I would book you two."

On the day you died in the arms of your youngest daughter, my mum Eileen, you had her read the Daily Record from cover to cover so you could be up to date with the news and then lay back content.

Granny was lost without you and not far behind you.

Until we meet again grandpa, Love always, Dorothy Ellen Connor

It's my privilege to be the memory keeper grandpa and as Jock Stein said of the Lisbon Lions in 1967 "We did it by playing football.
Pure, beautiful, inventive football"

Hope Scotland win tonight at Hampden.
You have a whole football team up there with you now and all the family.
Mum told me all the stories of the things you did when she worked in Woolworth's in the Main Street and when she was conscripted into the Fire Service in King Street during WW2.

She always used that phrase of yours when chldren were misbehaving "if you don't stop that, I'll put my backside in the fire!" It made them all giggle.

So many happy memories and my privilege to listen to mum and to remember you and granny and Aunt Margaret, Aunt Bessie, Uncle Tom and Uncle Jackie.

Your house is till there at no 23 and the football girls on a mural at the railway opposite.

Love you always grandpa and I will "keep right on to the end of the road." (as Sir Harry Lauder said) and as you and all the family did.

Love always, your grandaughter Dorothy Ellenxxx
