RachaelJONESThe funeral took place on October 27 at All Saints' Parish Church, Saughall of Mrs Rachael Jones, of Church Road, Saughall who died on October 11, aged 89. Rachael was the youngest daughter of Rachel and Walter Marshall, sister of Peggy and Thelma, and was born at Kingswood Lane, Saughall, on the 30th May 1928. Rachael had an incredibly happy childhood and went to Saughall School, leaving when she was 14. She then went to work at the Saughall Co-Op, first as a counter hand and then later as cashier. Rachael met her beloved husband William Trevor Jones when he came home after the war. They were both keen gardeners, artists and walkers and even owned a tandem which they used to visit many beauty spots both near and far! In 1950 Rachael and Trevor married and in 1953 they were offered the wooden shop and cottage in Saughall from which they sold hardware, wool, paint, wallpaper and all manner of things. In 1958 their son Andrew was born. Andrew was a real blessing to them and a very much loved son. In 1990, sadly, Rachael had to close the shop due to her husband's ill health and Trevor passed away in 1991. Rachael was completely lost but did not let this defeat her, dedicating her life to the Church and her beloved garden. Rachael was delighted to win best front garden in Saughall three times. In recent years, Rachael had ill health but her love of God, her family and her garden did not diminish. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten and always loved.
