ShangaraJOHALLoving Grandad, Father and Husband. Our beloved Mr. Shangara Johal, born on the 20th May 1934, aged 86, passed away peacefully at home, while holding his wife's hand, just after 0500 hours on Saturday the 10th October, 2020. A long-time resident of Coventry & before then of Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire in England, as well as Hoshiarpur, Punjab in India, he was the son of Mrs Pooran Kaur & Mr. Munsha Singh, who preceded him in death, as did his brother Major Piara Singh Jauhal. He is survived by the love of his life of 61 years, Mrs Kamlesh Johal & their four daughters, Ms. Sonia Johal, Mrs Carol Hulme, Ms. Ruby Johal, Ruby's two sons Jahmari & Syon, Mrs Nina Bawden, her son Shiloh & daughter Tia, as well as Dad's beloved Rani. Shangara was born into an established land owner's family, but only remembered his humbling childhood journey during the 1946/7 Indian partition, as a Sikh refugee being moved to the remaining Indian state of Punjab. Once settled, he grew up studying, while also helping his family to rebuild their lives as farmers. Granny Johal or Maa-ji often remarked on how her darling boy always enjoyed helping out, with love, joy & sometimes very naughty humour. In later years Shangara was sponsored by his brother Major Jauhal to then graduate with a BA in Economics and Politics. Shortly afterwards, Shangara met Kamlesh & together they were invited to England. So, Shangara moved to Scunthorpe in 1963 to work in the local steel works, Kamlesh later followed & together they raised their four girls all born in Scunthorpe, during 1965, 1970, 1973 & 1977. Subsequently they all moved to Coventry, where Shangara joined Keresley Pit. He always remained loyal to all his wider circle of friends, while remaining true to his belief in the principals of the Labour Party. Shangara was keen to serve his family & community & did so throughout his life, also with regular donations to his favourite charities. His daughters would agree, "Daddy would give his support & opinion without apology, and he never dismissed us for our choices. We love & honour you forever." May the Peace, Kindness & Love, surpassing all understanding, keep your heart & mind in the knowledge & love of God.
