It is sad that he passed away too soon but at least he was in the family home that meant so much to him. The last time I saw him was walking on Wearyall Hill in May 2016, he spoke of how very proud he was of his daughter Marie. Family and friends will miss his dazzling smile.

He was so very proud of you, Marie. It may be a few years since he and I spoke last, but always when I asked of you his voice changed to one of pure pride and joy. Keeping you in my thoughts. Charlotte

I am John's cousin Nick Carter. I have not seen John for probably 60 years but was saddened to hear of his death. The last times I saw him was while I was at college. I remember that I stopped in at the house by the tor on the way back home to Devon from Birmingham and spent about 2 hours with him talking about all sorts of things. Around the same time, I spent an evening with him pubbing in Brixham and we had a very enjoyable evening. I am sure he will be greatly missed.
