The obituary notice of Dr Stephan HUGO

Stephan was an outstanding anaesthetist who would go above and beyond the call of duty no matter what time of night or day. He would take on the sickest patients when no-one else wanted to take the risk of putting them to sleep, get them through the operation and back to the ward in better condition than before. He would arrive promptly in casualty, to attend the unconscious accident victim losing blood and fighting for breath, analyse the situation and then lead the resuscitation team into battle with a plan. He would spot the irregular heart and the yo-yoing blood pressure in theatre and sort it out quietly and efficiently without bothering the surgeon. I will remember him, as many other surgeons will, as a great colleague to have at your side in a tight situation.

Stephan you were sunshine walking into our lives . Kind, caring spun with laughter and fun , Patients and staff could do nothing but love you .A brilliant doctor, a brilliant man l am so so grateful l had the the privilege and joy of knowing you .

Your smile and enthusiasm will be missed at the hospital. And thank you for making me feel so welcome when I started working at the hospital. I will miss the Afrikaans chats we had in the corridor.

What sad news! When I first accompanied an opthalmic patient into the anaesthetic room Dr.Hugo, not knowing my name called me Aunty. I felt so welcomed! He always offered you a cup of Redbush if you were going to be delayed. A lovely man who is sorely missed l'm sure. May he Rest in Peace, Ann H x

Stephan you were kind, caring and amazing. Even when you were very unwell yourself you made sure John your truly grateful friend was cared for.
