RubyHEWITT (REYNOLDS)Ruby Hewitt (nee Reynolds) 6 July 1922 – 15 May 2017 HEWITT RUBY MURIEL Passed away on May 15th 2017 at The Queens Medical Centre Nottingham aged 94. Formerly she lived for 50 years in Park Road, Lowestoft. Fondly remembered by son Michael, daughter-in-law Rosemary, daughter Lynn, grandchildren Lisa, Sarah and Samantha, great grandchildren Kara and Aaron. Donations to British Heart Foundation and Parkinsons UK. Ruby was born in Lowestoft and had five siblings, one brother and four sisters. Her father was a fishing skipper sailing both drifters and trawlers in the early 20th century. After leaving school she worked in Gaskins sweet shop. When the 2nd world war broke out the family evacuated to Padstow where briefly she worked in a school. She then joined the forces and worked in munitions and making up supplies for special operations services. During this time she experienced the Blitz in London. During the war she met her future husband John Hewitt in Padstow. After the war they married and moved to Cobridge, Stoke on Trent where they had 2 children, Michael and Lynn. In the early 1950s they moved to her home town of Lowestoft. Here she had a number of jobs including a time at Birds Eye and also did bed and breakfast for holiday makers during the summer. In later years she spent many days at her beach hut on Lowestoft’s south beach. Ruby lived in Park Road for over 50 years but after the death of John moved to a sheltered bungalow in Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, in 2006 to be closer to her son. Ruby’s family was always her main focus, She died in QMC Nottingham at the age of 94. Her ashes are in Keyworth burial grounds.
