My lovely, special friend Sid.Thank you for our wonderful chats on history, life, growing up around Dovecot and Huyton.Telling me your wonderful stories about Malaya and always helping the children there. Coming home on the ship after all you had been through and watching the moon and the stars. Being based at Chelsea Barracks and going to the Hammersmith Palace and just watching everybody dance because you didn't have any money.Meeting the man on the bus who you went to school with and debating if it was you or he who had the better life, but it was you. Being evacuated to Ireland and making friends with the animals and telling them all your stories. Queing up for the penny tea dance at The Locarno and telling the Irish girls who worked at Bear Brand to go and they loved it. Telling stories of your Dad who worked so hard as a docker and a fireman. How he used to grow tomatoes on the air raid shelter and put seats in it for you and your family. How your Mum baked the best cakes, but always kept the butter for herself from the rations. The parties in Croxdale Rd on a Saturday night when everybody would bring a chair and all the furniture was moved into the garden. I will miss playing Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole and dancing whilst doing your legs, even though you said you couldn't see me, but I'm sure you could. I will miss our Monday morning debates and stories with Tommy (Norman) and thanking him and Violet for the roast dinner. I will miss Wednesday morning's with Annie when she used to walk Archie and bring him into see you. I will miss you talking about Joe and how great a person he was for doing your evening meals. And no, nobody was better than him. You never complained Sid and said there were always people who were worse off. I will miss the great laughs we had every day. But most of all, I will miss you, my dear friend Sid. I will treasure the memories and hold your stories deep within my heart. But for now..toodles,see you tomorrow. All my love Colette
