Derek was a very kind and gentle man. Friend and colleague to my father Frank in South Wales Transport and very supportive to me as I tried to make my way as a young jazz musician. Always encouraging and helpful to the jazz scene and particularly to Jen Wilson and Women in Jazz and the Jazz Archive as was. His excellent photos were a prominent feature in the Jazz club. Sadly missed.
