JohnFLETCHERA former chartered surveyor, John Fletcher, has died at the Royal Blackburn Hospital following a short illness,
at the age of 93.
John, of Lynwood Avenue, Clayton-le-Moors, leaves son Mark, and was the beloved husband to the late Anne.
After leaving Accrington Grammar School, he was a civil servant, undertook national service in the RAF, and trained to be a quantity surveyor. He gained full professional membership of the IQS and later the RICS, where he was later elected a fellow. He practised in the private sector for some years and later completed nearly 20 years service in the Manchester City Council’s Architect’s Department before retirement. He also gained a masters degree at the University of Salford by research into building maintenance. At leisure, he was an amateur film maker recording family holidays and day trips. He enjoyed eating out at local pubs and restaurants. He loved train travel whether in the UK or on rail-based holidays across Europe, with Switzerland being a particular favourite. He was a good cook, enjoyed gardening, and a committed animal lover, over the years taking in rescue cats.
He will be remembered as a diligent hard worker, and a man of great integrity with a quiet easy-going character.
He will be cremated at Accrington Cemetery on Thursday, March 27 at 12.20pm.
Family flowers only please.
