ThomasELLISONTOM, or Tommy, of Union Street, Rawtenstall, died on Tuesday, December 29, at the Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 84. He had a varied working life, which included a number of textile mills and footwear factories, being a delivery driver for Sevilles’ bakery, and a driving instructor. For a number of years, until his retirement, he worked at Medex in Haslingden. Tom entered enthusiastically into a wide variety of pastimes and pursuits. As a young man in National Service he boxed at middleweight for the Army. He later developed a taste for hunting rabbits with shotgun, or ferrets, but didn’t discover a true obsession until hooked by fishing in his middle years. A spell as a Britannia Coconut Dancer around this time gave way to ballroom dancing, and eventually crown green bowling, both of which Tom enjoyed long into retirement. Beloved husband of Olwen, father to Mark and the late Trevor and Christopher, treasured grandad of Becky, Benjamin, Richard, Katherine and Robert, and great-grandad to Hannah and Eve. A funeral service will be held for invited family at Burnley Crematorium on Wednesday, January 20, at 1pm. There will be family flowers only. In lieu of attendance or flowers, donations are invited in his memory to Rossendale Hospice; these can be sent via Fred Hamer Funeral Services (Rawtenstall). There will be a live internet broadcast of the service, the details of which are available in advance from the funeral home. Funeral director: Fred Hamer Funeral Services.
