JosephDUNN HAMERJoe, aged 85, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after a short illness. Cherished husband to the late Barbara, dearly loved dad of Karen and Lesley, dear father-in-law to John, much loved brother to Anne, and uncle to Andrew, Jack, Oliver, Liz, Graham, Justine, Charlie and Harvey. Joe was born in Blackburn and was the eldest of three children. His working life began when he was 17 and left home to join the civil service in London. It was here that he met his late wife Barbara. He served his national service in Northern Ireland between 1953 and 1955, and returned to work in London. In 1957 he moved to Gravesend, Kent to work at Shell Oil Refinery. He and Barbara were married in 1958 in Gravesend. They returned to Lancashire in 1959 and raised their daughters and Joe worked for the civil service in Accrington. After leaving the civil service he worked for a local pottery which he loved and later moved into the caravan industry where he managed Harringtons Caravans and Read Caravans. He retired in 1997. He and Barbara were married for 50 years. He loved spending time with his family and thoroughly enjoyed his holidays to the Lake District, Las Vegas, Rome and to see extended family in South Wales. Joe enjoyed watching sport - in particular rugby, snooker and Grand Prix racing. He was a keen Accrington Stanley supporter and used to enjoy going to matches when he was able to. Joe loved to socialise with friends and family, he was very popular and much loved by all who knew him. He will be very sadly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him. The funeral service will be held at St John the Baptist Church, Baxenden followed by interment in the Churchyard on Thursday, November 26 at 1pm. Family flowers only please, with donations in memory of Joe gratefully received on behalf of Springhill Hospice c/o funeral director Champ Funeral Services, Bank House, Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors.
