I met Ian on or about 1965 and at 15 spent the day helping him work on a 1929 Bentley. After that he said he was going diving on a liberty ship and said sorry I could not go. Because you had to be certified, then I surprised him with my certification and off we went into the sea with the most ill fitting wet suit. I froze but had the most exciting time spent in England. Forty years later I stopped in to visit as I was introducing my self said you won't remember me he stopped me and said you are Sean he remembered me .We had a wonderful visit and he showed me the bell from the ship we had dived on he found it soon after I went back to New Orleans. He still had the 1929 Bentley,He was one of the important people in my life. I will never forget the nicest people I have ever met. I am so sorry I didn't get to see him again. Best wishes to all.

Just been told by a friend that Ian passed away
two years ago. Condolences to the family. I feel awful not knowing and not attending his send off. A lovely, very knowledgeable man. Ian always made me welcome (and everyone else of course). Even if just passing I would call in and have a quick chat. If not in the shop he would come down to talk. Ian helped my diving career right from the first days in the 1960/70s, until my retirement a few years ago. We talked about diving, cars and boats and his dad. You will be missed deeply. RIP Ian.

A fine gentleman and dear friend has been lost to us. Thankfully, there are some great memories to draw on, whether talking about cars, the links between wartime Italian Navy divers and the evolution of SCUBA technology, or other shared passions such as mechanical timepieces.
We got to know each other well this past couple of decades. Even unannounced, Ian always made me welcome and made time for what was invariably interesting conversation. His pride in managing the business founded by his father, matched the pride he expressed for his family and staff. Ian had many qualities: modesty, integrity, dignity and loyalty. A charming old-fashioned politeness I found to be amongst the most endearing. I hope the manner in which he is remembered by his friends and the local community is a comfort to those grieving at this time. My sincere condolences to the Denney family. I am sure Ian is at peace.
