Agnes MayDEASEYdied peacefully at Hope House Care Home, Clayton-le-Moors, on Thursday, October 31, aged 92. Born in September 1927, at Paxton Street, Accrington, Nan, as she was known to family and friends, was educated at Hyndburn Park School. Nan spent time in the army, receiving the rank of Staff Sergeant. She was in Egypt after the Second World War and trained recruits on her return to the UK. One of her fondest memories was going on a skiing trip with her army pals in Cyprus. After leaving army accommodation in Blackburn, Nan and her late husband returned to Accrington to run a corner grocer shop in Countess Street, Accrington, before she became landlady at the Star Inn in Nuttall Street. Nan later spent a number of years working in the offices of Park Brothers and Fenniger & Blackburn, where she made many friends. She enjoyed knitting, crosswords and taking holidays in England with her late partner Roy. Her greatest joy in later life was visits from her four great-grandchildren Riva, Oscar, Rafferty and Ava. Nan also leaves behind her sister Ivy, two sons Michael and Malcolm, daughters-in-law Denise and Tracy, grandchildren Liam, Tamsin and Emily, and their partners Amy, Bec and Josh. The funeral was held on Friday, November 15th at Accrington Crematorium led by John Milton.
