Margaret DAVIS It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our Mum, Margaret "Maggie / Marg" Davis (née Ryan).
Maggie passed away in December at her home in Southampton after a long but courageous battle with breast cancer. Born and raised in Chaddesden, Derby, Maggie was one of five siblings.
A social butterfly and lover of music, Maggie enjoyed visiting the Rowing Club before discovering the Rockhouse, Silk Mill, and Flowerpot. She saw her favourite bands locally, at festivals and abroad.
Maggie had an enviable zest for life and an appetite for adventure, often embarking on impromptu camping trips and hikes, participating in sweat lodges, and exploring Neolithic sites and castles in Ireland. Life with her was never dull. Her passion, curiosity, and wicked sense of humour touched everyone who knew her, but most notably her children, who will always cherish their memories of their much-loved and incredibly fun Mum/Ma.
Maggie took on many roles over the years, including working as a barmaid at the King William, the Silk Mill, and the Blue Boy, nurturing toddlers at St Alban's Nursery, and later studying archaeology at Nottingham Trent University.
Twenty-four years ago, Maggie swapped Derby for Southampton. Trading hikes through Dovedale for the New Forest and cobs for rolls, she embraced life in the south with her husband. Although they eventually went their separate ways, they remained close friends.
It was in Southampton that Maggie took on her most cherished role as Granny/GaGa. She was a devoted Granny, full of fun, warmth, patience, and love for her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.
Maggie also shared her life with her devoted chihuahua, Boris, one of her many cherished canine companions over the years.
Maggie is reunited with her beloved Dad, sister, son-in-law, and brother-in-law. It is with further heartbreak that her beloved Mum passed away only weeks later.
Breaking the mould, as she so often did, Mum requested a no-service cremation, which will take place on what would have been her 61st birthday, January 28th. She asked that we each remember her in our own way-whether by raising a glass, playing her favourite music, or smiling at the happy memories she left behind.
Mum, you were one of a kind. Thank you for giving us a childhood full of wonder and laughter, for passing on your impeccable taste in music, for showing us what it means to truly live, and for loving us so fiercely. Wherever you are, Mum, we love you xx
