My wife had known John when he was young, connected through horses. I knew him for years, accompanying him to the Welsh Mountain zoo, as a volunteer, and also doing pottery and crafts with him. He had a great sense of humour and as he knew that I had been a chimp keeper he would accost me in public on every available opportunity by shouting, "Chimpy!" At the top of his voice. That will be my memory of him for sure.
