Dear John, your eloquent prose will be much missed. In spite of any differences, it was always a fresh window into a life of pride and honour, one of admirable sensitivity and sensibility. As your frequent reader, your diary entries and photos which you cared to share with so many, will be remembered for many years. You are now with your beloved wife. So rest in peace, good friend of many years.
Luis
ps. I am glad you got to read the Fitzroy MacLean book. I hope it was of some comfort during the rough times.

I had the pleasure of corresponding with John on many occasions relating to his diary. The diary was always interesting to read and I mostly agreed with his view of the world. We were born in the same year, 1934, and lived through the same times and events. RIP John, you are missed.

With kind regards and condolences to his family.

Oh the lovely gentleman on the moped? Saw you chugging away on Newport very often. I thought to myself that although I never knew you I wished I did. You looked such a character and a most interesting and intelligent man with amazing witty stories to tell. I would wave and in return get that wonderful smile.
I shall miss you. I feel you brought much needed joy to this world.

My condolences to everyone. Clearly a very great loss. Rip Sir.
