I first met Gav in 1987 as we headed off to travel around Australia. A camper van of four young men. From the moment I met Gav he was very much a gentleman and a man of integrity. Our trip was a great adventure. We swam in Broom WA and cable beach. We did ask him if the large tides had just swept his passport away, which had been left on the beach. As cool and calm as ever, he dusted the soaking wet passport off for further adventures. We met again in Zimbabwee where Gav was teaching in 1994. It is hard to believe that 30 years has gone since that time. I had always hoped he and his family would return to Australia. Gav was very much the person you would love to see time and time again. I was deeply saddened to hear of his sudden passing. I was very lucky to have met him. Rest in Peace Gavin. You will be missed. Vern Barling Sydney Australia
