Rarely in your life do you meet someone as lovely as Sid. These special souls fall into your world and make everything OK. Sid was this to me. I first me Sid in the 90's. I was walking to the Tate and noticed this small gallery tucked away. Little did I know then, the impact this gallery and its owner would have on myself and my work as an artist. From then on Sid became my framer and my good friend. When I visited St.Ives, he would always be my first 'port of call'. I would walk through the gallery door shouting 'Sid' and inevitabley he would come out from the back covered in paint and glue and the biggest smile. I loved to surprise him, just to get this reaction. He would then show me his latest paintings he had done. He was an accomplished and talentented painter.. We would then walk around to the Tate for a coffee and gossip. I always wanted to know whose frames he was making and all the latest news on the St.Ives art world. He would know. In 2000 I started looking after the late artist Brian Pearce. In the mornings I would walk Brian down to his studio, then carry on down to see Sid. We would then have a coffee and chat and even try and rescue Gulimonts from Porthmeor beach. Sid was my rock.To me and many he will be remembered as someone who made and leaves this world a better place. I will always carry you in my heart Sid and I am and will be eternally grateful for having known you. I love you. Emma Pickering.
