Ronald WilliamCALLAGHANIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Callaghan, aged 86 of South Shields, who passed away on Sunday, March 09. Ron was a devoted husband, father, and a man who dedicated much of his life to service and duty.
Born in South Shields in 1938 - Ron's life was shaped by his unwavering commitment to others. He served with distinction as a Royal Marines Commando, a role that defined his courage and resilience. Following his military service, Ron continued to serve his community as a police officer, CID detective and Special Branch officer in Northumbria Police, where he earned the respect of his colleagues and the gratitude of those he served.
Ron was predeceased by his beloved wife Audrey, who passed away in 2000. He leaves behind his cherished friend and partner June, and his beloved son Mark.
Ron will be remembered for his integrity, his dedication to his work, and his love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and service that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Ron's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported them during this difficult time. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Honoring his legacy of service to his country, a military funeral will take place at the South Shields Crematorium on Friday April 4th at 12:30pm, a reception/celebration of life will follow at 1:30pm at the Hedworth Hall in South Shields.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Parkinson's UK in memory of Ron. May he rest in peace.
