It is with deep sadness that I reflect on the passing of my dear friend John. He was one of the kindest and most generous people I’ve ever had the privilege to know. John, along with his wonderful wife Freda, opened their hearts and home to so many of us during our time at the University of Liverpool. They extended their warmth and support not just to me, but to countless students and visiting researchers from all over the world.
John was a remarkable person—an exemplar of kindness, trustworthiness, and gentleness. He had a rare ability to build bridges between different cultures, making everyone feel welcome, valued, and understood. His presence made the world a better place, and I often found myself in awe of his ability to connect people with such genuine affection.
I have always felt both deeply grateful and somewhat guilty for all that John and Freda did for me during my time in Liverpool. Their friendship was a gift I could never fully repay. Even after returning to my home country, I have carried their kindness with me, and I’ve often wished I could give back even a fraction of the love and friendship they showed me.
I only learned today, after a year, of John’s passing, and my heart is heavy with sorrow. I extend my deepest condolences to his beloved daughters and all his family members. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. John’s legacy of kindness and generosity will live on in the many lives he touched, and I will always cherish the memories of his friendship.
Rest in peace, John. You were a true friend, and I will never forget you.
