JackBIRCHJACK BIRCH Passed away aged 94 on Sunday 27th October 2024. Born Shaw Heath, Stockport, Jack left school and started an apprenticeship as a painter and signwriter before he was conscripted for national service at the end of the war with the Royal Scots Greys where he was posted to Berlin. Following conscription, he purchased his own shop with Agnes, his beloved wife he lost too soon, called 'The Dairy' on Greek Street, Stockport. Jack was a highly skilled freehand signwriter, the best of his generation, and worked at Avro Aerospace, Woodford, where his skills were used on the Vulcan and the Nimrod - the aircraft list he worked on was endless. Jack, a lifelong Stockport County Fan, had the ultimate schoolboys dream of playing at Edgeley Park in a cup match.
Dearly loved Husband of Agnes, much loved Dad of Loretto, Christine, Stephen and Angela, Grandad of Nathan, Aidan, Simon, Luke, Hayley, Charlotte, Elizabeth and Lydia and Great Grandad of Molly, Arlo, Paddy Joe and Amelie. Bless you Dad, we all loved you so much.
Jack's funeral will be held on Friday 22 November at Our Lady and the Apostles Church, Shaw Heath, Stockport at 11:30am followed by committal at Stockport Crematorium (Cypress Chapel) at 12:45pm.
