MargueriteBELTONnee Grant Marguerite Elaine Belton, nee. Grant died at home in Bardney on Tuesday 24th March after suffering for 10 years from dementia. She was born on the 11th October 1936, the Daughter of James Inglis Grant, manager of the Bardney sugar beet factory and Dorothy May Grant, manager of the teacher training school in Bardney. Elaine led a very full and active life. Having left Horncastle Grammar School Elaine trained as a nurse at Lincoln County Hospital. She Married Mike Belton in Bardney in 1959 and moved to London, where Mike had an Architectural practice, shortly afterwards. They left London for Stamford in 1966 where Elaine continued nursing at Peterborough District Hospital in the post of theatre sister running their six operating theatres. Elaine then took up the post of theatre sister at the Stamford & Rutland Hospital where she remained for the rest of her nursing career. Following her Mother's example, she took a deep interest in Liberal politics and was elected county councillor for Stamford South in the 1981 election. Elaine held this post for sixteen years. Throughout her life Elaine demonstrated her deep kindness and compassion not only in her work but also in her day to day life as witnessed by the number of those less fortunate that she took under her wing. Having lost her eldest Son to cancer in 2007 Elaine leaves her Husband, Son and three Grandsons
