JohnBAILEYIn memory of John Bernard Bailey Loving family man, husband to Carole, father to Ian and Jane and Grandpa to Sarah, Lianna, Annabel, Jessica, Eleanor and George. Born in Eccles dad was a proud Mancunian as are his two brothers Allen and Peter. From a young age he was interested in athletics and joined Salford Harriers later he moved into coaching and that's how he met a Liverpool Harrier Carole who would become his wife. John had a lot of success in sprint coaching, travelling the world for Great Britain and England. John and Carole moved to Coalville with Ian and shortly after that Jane arrived. John continued his coaching for Great Britain and England then moving onto the Great Britain and England for Blind Sport and Disability sport . He also joined the Leicester Coritanians AC at Saffron Lane Leicester to train local sprinters. John loved coaching and he was still coaching young athletes until April 2024 at the age of 94. John worked for GEC for many years and loved all things mechanical and feats engineering, he was involved with the tours of the tunnels in Glenfield and worked the dig site in Swannington. He had a passion for history especially the first and second world wars and was active in local Normandy Veteran association until it laid down their standard in St John the Baptist Church in Hugglescote. John also had a passion for painting and was a member of the Swannington Art class where he painted portraits of family, sports stars and war heroes
John's funeral service will take place at St John the Baptist Church, Hugglescote on Thursday 10th October 2024 at 10:30am followed by cremation at Loughborough Crematorium. Family flowers only please by request but donations if so desired to The Royal British Legion.
