John VincentAUSTINJohn "Aussie" Vincent Austin, 73, went to be with our Heavenly Father on 08:56 on June 18, 2022. Born in Harare, Zimbabwe, Aussie was an avid historian, particularly genealogy. If you have discovered this record as future family or historian, know he would be very pleased to play a part in your story. He would also want you to know that he rose to the rank of Captain in the Rhodesian Army and had a career as a senior Customs and Excise Officer in Zimbabwe for 20 years. A lovable eccentric, Aussie was a man of many talents; Observer's Book restorer, champion pampoen grower, purveyor of fine jams, and a true MacGyver when it came to fixing and building things. Despite any hardships he faced in life, he believed he was blessed. He came to call England his home and embraced British life and community. He had a smile for everyone and welcomed all without prejudice. Never having known a stranger, he lived a life of service and was happiest when using his gifts to help others. He loved nothing more than a wander and a chat with anyone and everyone up Joel Street. What was most important to Aussie were his family- both earthly and Heavenly- and to never forget to find time for ice cream! Aussie is survived by his beloved wife, Joleen, his three children: James, Martin, Sally and their spouses. He will be lovingly remembered by his 5 grandchildren (with 1 on the way) as the giver of hugs and best hider of jellybeans. He will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held at 3:30pm on July 6th at Fairfield Church in Northwood Hills. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Amnesty International or ZANE: Zimbabwe a National Emergency Jesus said to them, "You are truly my disciples if you live as I tell you to do, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. So, if the Son sets you free, You will indeed be free!" John Chapter 8 (The Living Bible).

Aussie was so much more than a 'brother in law' sharing our beloved children and granddaughters. He became a dear friend and the times we spent together will always be precious to us. Our common roots in Southern Africa helped build a bond that we treasured and will miss dearly. Aussie was a good and gentle soul, always ready to help someone in whatever way he could. Above all he was a dedicated family man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren unconditionally. He will be terribly missed by us all and we feel privileged to have been part of his life. May you rest in peace dear Aussie!
