John LewisASPINOf Great Harwood, passed away peacefully at his home on January 11, aged 76 years.
The devoted and much loved husband of Janet, loving and loved dad of Mark, Nina and Jenny, cherished grandad of Nathaniel, Ruby, Ted, Stanley and Charlotte, dear brother of Allan and Sheila and a respected relative and good friend to many.
At the age of 16 John followed his dream and signed himself up to the Merchant Navy working his way up to the rank of Senior Steward. He loved his time during his service, and he was fortunate enough to travel across the globe. His passion for the seas, ships and naval vessels remained with him throughout his life and he loved nothing more than sharing his vast knowledge with others. He later went on to work at Holland’s Pies where he became a well respected member of the working team serving the Hyndburn and surrounding areas in his delivery van, he was also an active member of the Holland’s social club and served on the committee and was involved in the arrangement of many of the social events including the famous family Christmas parties. He was also a keen crown green bowler and played for many local teams including Oak Hill Vets, Hollands and The Alma Pub. Holidays were always a favourite time for John, and he had many wonderful trips around the UK and Europe, and he enjoyed two amazing cruises. Most of all John was a loyal and loving family man who adored his family. He will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
John’s funeral service will be held at Accrington Crematorium on Wednesday, January 29 at 1pm.
Family flowers only please. Donations are being gratefully received in John’s memory on behalf of East Lancashire Hospice.
