How can I possibly write what dad meant to me. It is beyond language. I will do my best.
Dad was a very good man. A very kind and caring person. A person of great wisdom and compassion. Someone I knew I could always rely on. His loyalty was resolute. His integrity was beyond reproach. His manners, impeccable. His calmness was amazing. He really wanted to help people, and he did so on countless occasions.
Dad taught me many things too numerous to list. Here are just a few examples. To be kind. To help people. What integrity, honesty, manners, respect, trust, and loyalty are and why they are important. To trust my instincts. To remain calm. To never give up. To never despair. That nothing is ever as good or as bad as it seems, which is one of the many lessons his dad had taught him. To think laterally about subjects. To see the big picture. To question things. To instil in me a love of history, Latin, science, and mathematics. To have fun. And, to laugh as much as possible! I am very grateful to you dad for everything you taught me.
The way dad dealt with the effects of his Neuroendocrine Tumour (NET) and carcinoid heart failure was inspirational, like so many things were with dad. During his last few weeks, he had to deal with not just physical but also psychological challenges. Despite this, he remained determined to eat, drink, and take his tablets, as well as continue to look out for us and make us laugh. What courage. What compassion. What a dad.
Dad, you have always been my hero and you always will be. Thank you very much for everything you did for me. You are fundamentally a part of me. I could not be more proud of you. I will always love and miss you. You will be with us forever.
Te amo, tata (I love you, dad),
