RichardHUGHESMy beloved, wonderful Dad Richard sadly passed away in Southport Hospital on the 7th May 2024 aged 92 years.
A Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s RC Church, York Rd. Birkdale at 11am on Wednesday 22nd May 2024 followed by a committal at Southport Crematorium at 12 noon.
Anybody attending to share memories of my Dad are invited to wear blue and white, in recognition of the enjoyment and exasperation brought to our lives by our football team, Wigan Athletic FC.
I don’t have the words right now to say everything I would like to, but just to say that Dad and me had a special bond and we had joy, fun and lots of love every day. Moving up to Southport 15 years ago was the best thing I ever did. We took care of each other. Dad was the ‘Southport Sinatra’; crooning in Care Homes to bring happiness to everyone, telling
cringe-worthy ‘Dad’ jokes, befriending for Age Concern, and enjoying his coffee, (extra hot and in a mug, not a glass), crossword's and company in local cafes, especially The Barrel House.
By request, family flowers only, but if desired, donations are being gratefully received to Freshfields Animal Rescue in Richard’s memory.

Richard was always ready with a joke and a smile. Checking you were OK. A truly kind and gentle man. Much missed.

Richard was Southport's favourite Wiganer and a Birkdale legend. So sad to lose you from our community, but after all your good work helping and supporting others, you will surely rest in peace in Heaven.

A wonderful man, a great dad, loved his golf and football as well as Judge Judy in later years. He had a fine voice which brought such pleasure to so many. So pleased he retained so much independence for so long, for which thanks to friends, carers and especially his wonderful daughter Debbie. From Lajla and Mark
