Auntie Sylve

I love the term "Auntie". A name we grew up using for our nanny Pat’s neighbours. But in truth, it meant so much more. It was a title for the strong, caring women who helped raise not just their own families but each other’s too—a community of remarkable women who looked out for one another. It was a special era, and one I hope we still carry forward today.

Auntie Sylve was a beautiful lady, always composed, always beautifully dressed, and always up for a chat, even if it was just on the pavement.

For as long as I can remember, she was there, right across the road from Nanny Pat’s. I have happy memories of the birthday cards she gave us every year as a child, each one with a 50p coin carefully taped inside. I can still remember the excitement of peeling off that tape and popping the coin into my teddy bear money box. It’s a tradition I carry on now with my own children’s friends, hoping they feel that same little moment of joy - like finding hidden treasure in a card.

Auntie Sylve, we will miss you deeply. May you now fly high, reunited with your dear Keith.

Lots of love
Nat (Nanny Pat’s grand daughter #3)

All my life Aunty Sylvia has been there and a precious friend of my Mum and to us kids. She will be really missed as a lovely kind and friendly neighbour. I will miss our chats and looking out for Sylvia when over with Mum. There is a fabulous tribute to Sylvia painted by my Mum on the mural of Frome in Frome hospital minor injury dept It is the backs of Mum and Sylv walking to town through Willow Vale with their shopping bags as they used to a few years ago now. Enjoy the peace of heaven Sylvia and the joy of being with your lovely husband Keith.

Aunty Sylve (our family friend and close friend and neighbour to my nan) will always be remembered in my heart as a joyful bright and enthusiastic woman who always took the time to talk to us. She was full of fantastic stories, a very generous lady with her time and care of others.

Since before I remember she would always bring a pot of tea across the road whilst my Nan was child minding to share a cuppa and one of the cakes she had made. Her cakes were the lightest and fluffiest, enjoyed by many. I also remember her as a crafty lady industrious with her skills at knitting.

Some of my holidays as a teenager I was able to spend at my Nan’s and often would go with Sylvia up to the local elderly home where we would carry and deliver these delicious cakes and sit and chat to anybody that wanted some company. It was a wonderful lesson in compassion and helping others.

I’m not sure I’ll ever meet another person quite like Sylvia. She always had such a sparkle in her eye.

Wishing comfort and peace to all of her family and loved ones. Rebecca

Aunty Sylve

Will miss your smiley face greeting me as i drive and park to see nanny. Will cherish the catchups we all had listening to your and nannys tales of old times.

Now for a peaceful rest.
