Auntie Sylve
I love the term "Auntie". A name we grew up using for our nanny Pat’s neighbours. But in truth, it meant so much more. It was a title for the strong, caring women who helped raise not just their own families but each other’s too—a community of remarkable women who looked out for one another. It was a special era, and one I hope we still carry forward today.
Auntie Sylve was a beautiful lady, always composed, always beautifully dressed, and always up for a chat, even if it was just on the pavement.
For as long as I can remember, she was there, right across the road from Nanny Pat’s. I have happy memories of the birthday cards she gave us every year as a child, each one with a 50p coin carefully taped inside. I can still remember the excitement of peeling off that tape and popping the coin into my teddy bear money box. It’s a tradition I carry on now with my own children’s friends, hoping they feel that same little moment of joy - like finding hidden treasure in a card.
Auntie Sylve, we will miss you deeply. May you now fly high, reunited with your dear Keith.
Lots of love
Nat (Nanny Pat’s grand daughter #3)
