Mr Silverton (baggy to us, when out of earshot) was also a memorable inspiration to me, enabling my later coping with the maths of an electrical & electronics degree. Don't ask me to explain it to you nowadays however! I was one of the nerds who enjoyed his lunch time chess club; one more activity he did voluntarily. I also enjoyed his tuck shop. A top teacher, who's name stayed with me (and many of you it seems) all those years.
